Jon Walker has trained and shown Road Horses and Ponies for over fifty years. As a teenager, he was introduced to the discipline when he worked with Lester Petticord. The excitement of watching and driving fueled his passion for Roadsters. Jon was mentored by Johnny Lucas and Sam Brannon as he sought to develop his training skills.
Over the years, Jon has introduced Road Horses and Ponies to many of his clients, resulting in his training Road Horses and Ponies to show in the Open, Youth, Amateur, and Under Saddle divisions. Horses and ponies trained and/or shown by Jon have consistently been in the top ribbons at the Worlds Championship Horse Show, the Kansas City Royal, as well as many other top shows.
Jon’s commitment to the success of the Road Horse and Pony industry has led him to volunteer his time in many ways. He has supported ARHPA by twice serving as Vice President. He has judged Road Horse and Pony classes at many shows, including the Canadian Royal. Jon volunteers at horsemanship clinics, showing how to work a horse. He has participated in exhibitions of Road Horses such as the Mid Ohio Standardbred Yearling Sale. Jon has cultivated a strong relationship with the Amish Community, which is a valuable way to introduce new horses to our industry.
Having spent the better part of his life working with Road Horses and Ponies, Jon finds working with horses that have little or no show experience to be the most rewarding part of his job. Whether right off of the track, bred at Jon Walker Stables, or discovered by Jon, no one can doubt his outstanding record with horses such as: WCC WC IAMNOTACOW, WC I’ve Got This, WCC The Racing Shadow, WC Where’s Rueben, RWC Holy Cannoli, WC Power Stroke, WC RWC Quill, Mr. B, Stars and Stripes, Eclipse, Duramax, Super Glide, Wheels Up, and Wrapped in Bacon.
Jon’s years of commitment to Road Horses and Ponies, his well-known work as a trainer, and his efforts to contribute to the success of the discipline, show that he is a deserving candidate for the ARHPA Hall of Fame. Thank you for your consideration
